Beard and Moustache Transplant
For men, not growing beard and moustache hair might be derived from genetic reasons, or as a result of hair loss after some diseases. Treatment is similar to hair transplant. We will prefer nape to collect hair follicles as they are resistant for hair loss. Hair from other parts of the body are not preferred in transplants on hairy skin due to low hair quality. Although some prefers beard hair on neck, we have strong experience using follicles on nape. No pain after local anesthesia. Hair follicles are collected one by one with the help of micromotors. After required paresthesia is acquired, hair follicles will be extracted and preserved in special solution providing liveliness. Number of follicles to be collected is around 400-1000 for moustache, and 500-3000 for beard depending on need. Next phase is extremely important as angle of hair on beard and moustache is as significant as brow hair’s. If there is some beard in present by looking at it, or if there is not depending on standard horizontal angle, transplantation is performed on beard and moustache. Transplanted hair follicles hold on to beard or moustache, and keeps living. Similar to hair transplantation, most of the transplanted hair will go through regression phase in 2 weeks and hair will be lost.
It will start growing again in 4-6 months and complete maturity in 1 year. Since transplanted hair will be leaning on one side, it may look loose between hairs. If it is needed, additional sessions might be operated. You can start shaving after 2-3 weeks following transplant operation.
